10 Unique 2020 Scholarships to Pay for School

There are thousands of scholarships available to help pay for college and university. Many of them require students to have high GPAs, volunteer hours, or expects them to write stellar essays.


          Then there are the scholarships no one talks about, but everyone should. While not as plentiful, there are many scholarships that most would consider strange and ridiculous. For example, there are scholarships just for left-handed people and scholarships for gamers who enjoy tabletop card games. While they may sound silly, scholarships like these can offer as little as $500 to thousands of dollars in scholarship money.


          Finding unique scholarships like these are not difficult and are often as easy as finding regular academic scholarships. The trick is changing your search parameters to something like “unique scholarships” or “strange” scholarships to find scholarships with strange names and even stranger prerequisites.


  1. Tall Clubs International Student Scholarship
    Amount: $1,000
    Deadline: March 2020
    Requirements: Are you a boy over 6’2 or a girl over 5’10 and about to enter your first year of college? You are eligible to win up to $1,000 just for being above the average height.

  2. Gamers Helping Gamers Scholarship
    Amount: $5,000
    Deadline: March 2020
    Requirements: Here’s a scholarship for those who love the card game Magic: The Gathering. Two scholarships are awarded for writing about your favorite and least favorite cards and how Magic: The Gathering teaches valuable life lessons.

  3. Make Me Laugh Scholarship
    Amount: $1,500
    Deadline: August 2020
    Requirements: Have an incredibly embarrassing or funny story you think deserves to be told? It could get you some money for college.

  4. Superpower Scholarship
    Amount: $2,500
    Deadline: March 2020
    Requirements: If you’re addicted to superhero movies or comic books, this might be for you. Complete a 250-word essay about which superhero or villain you’d change places with for the day and why.

  5. Flavor of the Month Scholarship
    Amount: $1,500
    Deadline: July 2020
    Requirements: Here’s a scholarship for anyone who loves ice cream. Answer the question, “If you were a flavor of ice cream, which would it be and why” in a 250-word essay.

  6. No Essay College Scholarship
    Amount: $2,000
    Deadline: January 31st, 2020
    Requirements: There are none. Simply go to the website and register. Every month a new winner is chosen, and you can register as many times as you wish.

  7. Writers of the Future Scholarship
    Amount: $500, $750, $1,000, $5,000
    Deadline(s): Oct 1st, January 1st, April 1st, July 1st
    Requirements: A great scholarships for amateur writers who love fantasy and sci-fi stories. Writers can submit a prose up to 17,000 words. First, second, and third prize winners are awarded prizes. All first prize winners are eligible for the grand prize of $5,000 at the end of the contest.

  8. Stuck at Prom Scholarship Contest
    Amount: $10,000
    Deadline: June 2020
    Requirements: No list about weird scholarships would be complete without the famous scholarship contest from Duck Brand. The contest requires you to make your prom outfit completely out of Duct Tape.

  9. Zombie Apocalypse Scholarship
    Amount: $2,000
    Deadline: October 31st, 2020
    Requirements: Perfect for the fans of The Walking Dead, this scholarship asks students to plan what they’d do if everyone at their school turned into zombies and the top five things they’d bring to stay alive.

  10. Create a Greeting Card Scholarship
    Amount: $10,000
    Deadline: March 2, 2020
    Requirements: Ever thought you were creative enough to create your own greeting cards? Submit yours and you could win a cash scholarship and your school get $1,000.
